No sound on Intel 82801EB, help please

Hi Everybody

I just got a brand new 2.8GHz P4 and it works great. I had previously tried to install Mandrake Linux 9.1 on my old computer but it didn't work very well and becasue the hard drive was only 6Gig, I had to uninstall to make room for Windows. Now that I have the new computer, i tried installing it and it works OK, but for some reason the sound doesn't work at all. I have tried changing the drivers but that seems to do nothing. I tried the troubleshooting suggestions and it says to type "/sbin/fusrz -v /dev/dsp to find other programs that might be using the sound card, but i get a message that says /dev/dsp does not exist. Could this be the problem? Any help would be appresiated and try to keep it simple.

might be a longshot but..

I'm not an expert on Mandrake though I've heard it's really easy. If that's the case this might not be the solution you're looking for. On Debian, you have to make sure your user account has access privs so you would type (where foo is the username)

adduser foo cdrom
adduser foo disk
adduser food audio

That would give you access to audio, and cdrom functions. Hope that helps..
