no sound. no sound modules

This is my first time here!!!
Hope to be posting in the right place.
I've just installed slackware 12.1 in a toshiba satellite U405D-S2848.
Everything was working fine, but mi alsamixer showed me only the master volume even after the alsaconf.
I tried to solve this by installing the latest version of alsa from the alsa-project page. When executing the ./configure and the make in the alsa-driver folder I obtained an error message because the alsa was already installed in my kernel.
Then my problems started: I modified my kernel and remove the alsa modules. After that I tried again to run the make of the alsa-driver, but I got this error message:
No rule to make target `/home/Downloads/ALSA/alsa-driver-1.0.17/i2c/other/tea575x-tuner.o', needed by `/home/Downloads/ALSA/alsa-driver-1.0.17/i2c/other/snd-tea575x-tuner.o'
And other error in the i2c folder.

I rebuild the alsa modules in the kernel, but now I have no sound, no sound modules in the lsmod, no /dev/dsp, no card detected by alsaconf and no idea of what to do.

Here are some output that could help:

Mi lspci:
root@karenin:~# lspci | grep Audio
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia
Mi lsmod, as you can see there are no sound modules, even when I rebuild them.
root@karenin:~# lsmod

#modinfo soundcore

#modprobe <the module>

and if there are no problems, let it load automatically at boot

There are numerous threads, etc, if you search Ubuntuforums via Google. I imagine there's probably threads on it here to, and I've also saw it mentioned many times in the support channel.

No known solution to my knowledge.
