No sound in ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite p105-s6024
 
Ok, well I just got my dual-boot problem solved. Now another issue has arrived. I can't get any sound from Ubuntu on my Toshiba Satellite p105-s6024. My buddy says that I need to find out what sound card I have, but I am clueless when it comes to computer hardware. I know that I need to get a driver for it, but i can't get one unless i know what sound card i have. Could somebody please help me figure this out?

Hi.
To see what kind of hardware you have, just open a terminal window and type lspci. In the results look for multimedia audio controller. This will tell you what kind of soundcard you have.
There is a similar thread you should read, where I and others already provided some info how to solve such a problem. The thread is here.

I couldn't find anything called multimedia audio controller. The closest thing that i could find was audio device. Here is what it pulled up when I typed lspci

well, if you do not have an external sound card meaning one that is not apart of the motherboard, then wouldn't you just find the sound drivers meant for your motherboard?

Well I guess I could if I could find it.;) But I can't make heads or tails out of that lspci thingy. I have no idea what to look for or where to search for drivers or anything.

what is your motherboard? if you do not know how to find it, go to your terminal and type "sudo lshw" without the "". As I just learned, the sudo means "Super User DO". as far as the lshw, I am unsure right now but, It lists all of your hardware. Look through and figure out what is yours. BTW it will ask for your password.

Through more searching I found that sudo dmidecode gives you detailed info about motherboard, ram, and a few other things. I am new to this myself, I hope that this has helped you.
