No sound in lenovo laptop with SUSE

I have installed suse10.3 on my lenovo laptop. I have the following problem with multimedia.

1. No sound. The output of the "lspci | grep -i audio" command is as follows

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

2. My next problem is the video files are not playing with totem. I tried the link it showed and tried to install the "codecs-gnome.ymp" but was not successful. It showed some error while downloading. I tried to get the vlc and gxine players for suse but could not get it and even mplayer. Why all these players are not there in suse?
