no sound in centos7 vmware vm

hi guys no sound in my centos 7 vm in vmware

i have tried both use default host sound card and selected HP speaker high definition sound from the drop down but none of them are producing sound.

in /proc/modules there is

snd_ens1371 25243 3 - Live 0xffffffffa03ac000
snd_rawmidi 30824 1 snd_ens1371, Live 0xffffffffa03b5000
snd_ac97_codec 130476 1 snd_ens1371, Live 0xffffffffa038b000
ac97_bus 12730 1 snd_ac97_codec, Live 0xffffffffa0345000
snd_seq 63074 0 - Live 0xffffffffa037a000

how can i use this information to fix my sound?

dont have to solve the problem for me just give me an idea of what needs to happen so i can research and try myself...thanks

Why do you need sound on a VM?

I always turn this off from the host to optimize performance.
