no sound in amarok

I am running fedora 13 and facing this weird problem. After configuring my sound devices I found that vlc , and other media players do not output any sound, while amarok does so. After this, I removed pulseaudio and amarok started working perfectly well, but now vlc and other media players stopped producing any sound(although the song streams smoothly). I am running xine as phonon backend for amarok.
Here is the output of aplay -l

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Hi r_s, Welcome to LQ. Have a look at these fixes.

Good luck. ;-)
