No Sound From My laptop When Booting In Ubutu 7.04

Hi there, I have just installed Ubuntu 7.04, Wine and Vlc. All my videos and mp3 files can play but with no sound or error massages. Can some out there help me. I am using Vlc for both videos and sound.

That distribution is nearly three years old. I *highly* recommend upgrading.
