no sound card is detected

could say that m a newbie for linux but still i got some good skills at this platform ......but m not able to fix one of my problems in linux .....my creative speakers are working very well in windows at my dual boot system ...but when i switch at linux no music player works there ....every time when i play something the message that appears is

"no audio device is found , may be some other application is using it"

using the tool to detect the soundcard shows "no sound card detected"

it would be really kind of you to fix this problem of mine so that i can well enjoy music along with my RHEL 4

Isn't RHEL 4 fairly old? I know 5 is out now. If you like the Redhat based, and you're not forced to use RHEL for some reason, you might want to look at Fedora 7, its probably a little better for home users..

Regardless, open a terminal, and type lspci, then hit enter, and look for a line similar to this..

Code:
00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)
(I'm pretty sure that still works in RHEL)

Then try using Google to find a solution.

It worked, it jsut didn't produce an output for your sound device. That means it wasn't detected by the installer. You can try Googling the make/model of your PC, RHEL 4, and No sound, see what comes up.

Other than that, I'd suggest a newer distro.
