No sound after upgrading from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.4

I have upgraded and now I'm not getting any sound. How do I fix this? Thanks for any help.

Your going to have to give some info about your system if you want people to help.

My bad!! I know better!!! I upgraded from 8.10 to 9.4 and I have an hp mini netbook model # 1030nr with an IDT Audio Driver. What other info will I need to provide?

I can sympathize - I've had a nightmare trying to get headphones to work on my cloudbook in 9.04.

Some stuff that might help to see whats going on:

cat /proc/asound/version
To will let you know which alsa you have.

lsmod Tto see if you have modules with sound (snd)

aplay -l
To see if your sound card is recognized.
