No sound after much updating opensuse 10.3

I installed all the latest update for opensuse 10.3 without a problem, but still didn't get even a tick from my laptop.

In Yast Control Centre for Hardware, I tried to configure the sound card - but no sound - even when I click 'test'.

I am sure I would not face this problem, unless my laptop's speaker is broken, which I doubt it. Can anyone please help?

Thanks
R

What soundcard does the laptop have onboard? (If you don't know then check with the manufacturers support website).

You may need to use an alternative driver. (from memory I think that SuSE uses ALSA but others are available.)

Many thanks for your response! My soundcard is intel ICH 6 (AC 97), and where can one find Alsa?
