no sound

I have an intel 850emv2 motherboard with the ac97 sound chip built in. I'm running red hat linux 9 and I dont get any sound whatsoever, I searched the fourm to no avail. Can someone point me in the right direction or does anyone have any ideas on how to get my sound working?

Try running sndconfig as root in a terminal. You may need to install the package sndconfig if you get an error
