No scanner device in /dev ?
We are trying to install a Brother scanner. It is also a printer and the printing works fine... but i noticed there is no device listed in /dev for "scanner" ... how does it get there? or is it necessary if it's a MFP ?
I do have another post in this section, but Im wondering if this is a new item to address... |
It should be in a subdirectory of /dev created by your scanner's manufacturer -- if at all. Try inserting one document and attempting to scan it, seeing if it works. There should be a scan button on the printer/scanner combo for you to try.

/dev/usb only has lp0
Sorry, I had left a bit out... I meant to say there is no scanner device under /dev/usb
the only device listed there is lp0 the scanning does not work, either thru Gimp or the button on machine, that is why we are looking for causes. In my other post (farther down in this forum) I listed an error that occurred. and we also now are having gnome-color-manager crash on bootup. Sent reports to redhat and am awaiting. But my main question HERE is... SHOULD THERE ALWAYS BE A 'SCANNER' DEVICE SHOWING in /dev/usb OR... if it's a multi-function printer, is it possible that it will ONLY have an lp0 device listed? (which I do know is for the printer) |
