downloaded the 3.5mb pdf you suggested... now just to read it!
ive just read the mythtv howto, do you have all the dependancies installed eg mysql, xmltv? it looks like a complicated beast i think as a shell/unix newbie you should go for the precompiled binaries.
I dont know?? I tried to find RPM files but I couldnt find any 686 rhl9 ones for this program... maby you could suggest a better program for me to try?
ive never really used an rpm based distro so im afraid i cant point you to any rpms, as for other software i cant help there either, i dont record tv on the computer i just watch it with xawtv. but stick with that rute users guide it'll give you a great understanding of general unix/linux and in a few months you might be able to come back and try this again.
Ok, since the beginning of this thread I've been dabbling in MythTV, it certainly is quite the beast, to me, it's total overkill for such a tool, but then again, I'm a tool sometimes myself
I'm leaning (as was noted above) towards a QT issue of some sort. Maybe find the -devel QT lib's on your distros CD? I'm running Slackware 8.1 and lucky for me, it's all there without having to worry about -devel versions That's really the only thing that would make sense (currently) to me.
