No Room on Root (/) Device
 

Well, I did something rather stupid, and now I have a problem. The newest version of Slackware does not come with Gnome, so I decided I would get the package from the web. To make a long story short, it was installing up until the point where it filled up all the space on my root drive. What I need to know is, what are some files I can delete that wouldn't cause any problems and that would free up some space? Or is it possible to some free space off one partition to my root partition? I have a 5 gig root partition, and a 40 gig /home partition, and most of that 40 gigs is free. Any help is greatly appreciated.

ext (one might call them "Linux") partitions are resizeable to some degree, though my computer croaked before I had a chance to mess with that kind of thing. There's such a thing as ext2tools or exttools or ext*<something>. Maybe even extresize, though I can't remember at the moment.

If root and home are next to each other, you can shrink home and expand root to fill the space. And even compile Gnome in your home directory, if such a thing is condoned by their documentation.

Or reinstall your OS in such a way that doesn't overwrite your home partition, though I'm not at all familiar with Slackware.
