No room for updates in 9.04

Just loaded 9.04 side by side with XP. HDD says it has 138 of 149 remaining....When I try to load updates in Ubuntu it says there is not enough space on HDD. Did I make a mistake loading side by side? Updates are many, so I also wonder if I can choose the ones I need....that is.....once I recognize what the hell, individually, they are. HEEELLLPPP...I'm trying to leave MS OS behind.

Tell me where I can find this.....I haven't done much troubleshooting on my own.

Thanks

Open up a cmd line terminal, may be called xterm or some such; type in

df -h

and also

fdisk -l

you may need to use sudo eg

sudo fdisk -l
