@knudlf I did run that command but it didn't fix anything. So, I had to call it
a day and I shutdown the computer.
And then today morning, I just couldn't login. Things were horribly broken.
Then I took a backup of my data and reinstalled Ubuntu.

Now when I ran the make, all previous errors disappeared. I solved the new errors
and something has compiled here now.

I told you there was a serious issue with your apt configuration. You did not try to fix it. Without that almost all the apt install, apt install -f (and similar commands) would fail.
Now you replaced the OS and it obviously fixed that too.
