No more wireless connection in mn-applet - Ubuntu 7.10

The Wireless Connection icon is missing from the nm-applet window. I still see the "Wired Connection" and "Modem Connection", but the "Wireless Connection" disappeared.

I followed some instructions found on the web and tried the following remedies:
sudo killall nm-applet
nm-applet --sm-disable

sudo apt-get remove network-manager-gnome
sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome

I also cleaned the /etc/network/interfaces text file.

But it did not give me back the icon.

What should I do?

I am not quite sure what do you mean with "...icon in the nm-applet window...". In my case I have just nm-applet icon, with menu points like wired connections and wireless connections.

Did you ever had wireless working? Have you installed the correct driver/firmware? What is your wifi card?

Check to see if nm-applet is a running (or sleeping)process. If so try this:
In the panel (toolbar) right click
- add to panel
- Notification area icon (scroll down under utilities

You'll see a network icon with an ! next to it...that's nm-applet
right click and select network
