no modem
Hi guys ,, my name is Rusty ,,,
I have an e-machines c 2480 with a smart link modem ver 3.20.4.120 when I installed my spiffy new fedora core which I got with the linux bible my modem dissapeared ,, I had messed up the grub settings and couldn't get back to windows to dial out so I had to clean the disk and reinstall the win monster,, not a big loss just some pics ,,but now I'm lost, what do I do about the modem ,,, I'm new to linux but very interested I've been reading a long time and really want this to go... any help would be greatly appreciated,,,,, thanks |
I hate to tell you this but your smart link modem is commonly know as a winmodem. meaning there is practically no hardware on your modem at all. it is all done in software. pretty much only works in windows. Very few work in linux or any other OS. Go out and get a hardware based modem. Make sure is has a hardware dsp. Or you can your chances with another winmodem for $7 as some but very few say linux support on the box. I would just get a hardware based one becuase then it is guarenteed to work with linux or any other os.

No most of the winmodems have no drivers outside of windows because the manufactures refuse to release the hardware details. And even if they do, very few programs want to write code for a $7 dollar piece of sh*&t modem when a hardware modem can do it without a driver at all.
newegg.com is the best. |
