No mixer elements and/or devices found. Works only as root!
 

Hello, I've seen some threads here about the {no mixer elements and/or devices found} error message when trying to open the gnome-volume-control. But with me, it does work when I am root, but under any other user I get the error message.
So I think this is a permissions problem but I am a member of the group audio and all devices in /dev/snd/ have rw- permissions for owner and group audio...

Is there anything else that could be wrong?

I just found out that if I make audio my default group (by typing 'newgrp audio') it works! Why is that, what am I doing wrong? I want to be able to open the mixer without changing my default group all the time...

Does adding yourself to the audio group make any difference?
