Question No menu or anything after login

I just installed elementary os on my netbook and at first I encountered the (according to google well known) problem that couldn't login (black screen and back to the login screen after pressing enter at the login screen) but after removing the .Xauthority and .ICEauthority files I was able to login finally. Only now I am not able to open the menu, open a terminal etc. also the dock is gone. The only things I can do at the moment are is click the network connection and select a network.

My netbook is the HP mini (typing this on backtrack 64 bits but my previous ubuntu version on here was 32 bits) with 1gb ram and 30+ gb hdd.

Hope someone can help me!

Try logging in rescue mode try Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to console & check /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog
