So this would imply that the integrity check did not pass.

So did it pass the integrity check or not????????????????????
Keep in mind that that checking the md5sum of the downloaded iso, and checking the md5sum of the CD that you burn from that iso are 2 different things. Or checking the md5sum from the usb created by unetbootin are 2 different things.
I have never used unetbootin. Are you able to burn a Mint CD at the
slowest possible speed and then boot from that CD, and then run the integrity check
from that live CD, and have it report no errors??????????????
If you can burn a CD that passes the integrity check it should be good.
I would think that if you can boot from a unetbootin created live usb, and running the integrity check from that live usb passes, then the live usb should be good.
