No internet connection warning

I recently installed Linux Mint 17.2 - Rafaele Cinnamon edition, I also downloaded the update to my language software program using Wine. I initially got a gpg error of some sort about not being able to verify signatures, but that went away after a few system updates. But every time I launch the language app, it does take me to the log in screen, and once I log in it says "It appears you are not connected to the internet. You need to be online to continue," even though I am online. What could be causing this?

By you are online, do you mean at least you can ping google.com?

If so, what language program are you using? By any chance, does it have a logging mechanism where you can check any errors logged? Does your languange app happen to need some proxy settings after the update?

It seems issue related to your language program.

Internet connection message

Yes, by online I mean that I am connected to the internet. Honestly, I wouldn't know if there was any type of logging mechanism, or anything about proxy settings. I am new to Linux.
The program is called Fluenz. initially, I ordered the discs, then they came out with a free upgrade to their new platform that is fully downloadable and installed on a desktop or laptop. The download is for Windows 8 or 10 or Mac or 10.7 or above.
I went ahead and downloaded it to my laptop hoping WINE would work as I hoped. There did not seem to be any issues other than the one previously mentioned error. The icon is on my laptop, and I can click and it opens the log in window just fine, but, as I mentioned, once I fill in my username and password and hit log in, it comes up with the message saying that I am not connected to the internet, which I am.
But I have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it.
