with the ifconfig command you need to specify what interface you meen.
i.e
ifconfig sit0

otherwise Linux don't know which one you are changing

sit0 has an ip now.
I wanted to ping the server (192.168.100.100) and there was an reaction. but after this i couldnt type anything. even "exit" didnt work anymore...

btw, i didnt really get, what you mean with this "DNS" issues

EDIT: I restarted the computer and the ips have disappeared...

EDIT Numter 2:

If this an eth0 network; my brother has eth0, my father has it... how will i be able to connect with an sit0 network-code?!

DNS is the service that makes it possible for you to enter adresses in non ip format. i.e www adresses.

So the DNS server translates the "normal" adress to an IP adress.
i.e www.linuxquestions.org -> 64.179.4.146

When you say reaction what do you mean??
You have to be more specific.

when i type ifconfig -a now, there is THIS reaction:

Link encap: IPv&-in-IPv4
inet addr. 192.168.100.5 / Mask: 255.255.255.0
inet addr6: 192.168.100/96 scope: compat
...

there is no data transfer and when i write "ping IP" it tries to send a packet of bytes, but it doesnt work (i think)

You have to add a route to the gateway before you can ping.

use the route command given earlyer

check with 'route' before and after you specify a gateway (just route, no arguments)

if there already is a gateway you se that with the first 'route'

i shortly rebooted the computer and while testing the system before kde starts, there was this message:

setting up network interface

sid0

eht0 could not get a valid interface name: -> skipped

and instead of done, there stands failed...

i think this is the true problem,,,
