"no hardware acceleration", but GLXgears displays 650 FPS

Cedega says that i have passing OpenGL, but 3D acceleration fails. I ran glxgears and I get a steady 639 FPS (500 FPS is passing for Cedega as far as I can tell). What is wrong with it?

cedar 06-14-2005 05:15 PM

in a terminal type:
Code:

glxinfo | grep direct
this will check for direct rendering you should get:
Code:

direct rendering: Yes
if you have 3d acceleration enabled
what card do you have?

500fps in glxgears isn't really very much. In a game, 500fps would be insane but my el-cheapo Gefore FX5200 gets around 2300fps in glxgears. So now I have some questions for you :)

1) What type of video card do you have?
2)If it's Nvidia or ATI do you have their proprietary drivers installed or are you using the X.org ones?
3) Please post the output of these commands
Code:

# glxinfo
# ls -l /usr/lib | grep GL

Thanks :)

I think you are talking about the 5 second test, not the individual seconds.

lowpingnoob 06-14-2005 05:24 PM

wait wierd, it was just running slow, now i am getting up to 2750 FPS

lowpingnoob 06-14-2005 05:25 PM

but that still doesn't help.

amosf 06-14-2005 06:44 PM

glxgears is a useless test. I'm getting 200 at the moment. Some days I get 700. This is on a A64 with FX5700 that plays Doom3 in linux just fine...

cedar 06-14-2005 07:29 PM

I was going to suggest that playing some game requiring 3d acceleration (e.g.-TuxRacer or Doom) is a better indicator of acceleration than glxgears.

yeah, but why would i fail the rest of Cedegas 3D acceleration test? I have perfectly configured driver.

cedar 06-14-2005 08:29 PM

I don't know...maybe go to the Cedega website and see if there are any known issues with this driver.

ive emailed support, but this is a supported graphics card, and the driver is the newest version, so it IS supported.

The latest nvidia driver wasn't released all that long ago so perhaps there are still a couple of issues that the TransGaming people haven't sorted out yet. And no, my test wasn't over 5 seconds, told ya you could get much better :)

MikeZila 06-14-2005 09:40 PM

glxgears should give you thousads of fps, not 500. I get 500 just with Mesa doing software rendering.
