No gui for Mandrake 9.2 on dualboot
New Guy here. I recently installed Mandrake 9.2 on a second partition next to XP pro. The installation seemed to go smoothly until i tried to pull up the linux os from the os selection screen. XP comes up normally but the Linux option gets me to a command line that i can do no more than log into (only due to experience). The OS selection screen gives me a few options that are "linux, failsafe, xp, floppy" and I am unsure what to make of all of these options. Please help and thank you in advance.

Try typing : startx

Thanx I should have done better searching on google, that solved the problem. I am one step closer to being an ex windows user.

to startx on boot change your default runlevel either w/ a mandrake gui tool or just edit /etc/inittab to reflect the session runlevel.
welcome to linux and lq. good luck. |
