No gui after vid card change

I'm dual booting Mandrake 8.1 and W98se on my "backup" comp and just installed a Sis 300 vid card because of too many Win problems with my Matrox G400. I'm new to Linux and am feeling my way around. I'm medium geeky with M$. I get to my login ok and after I type in startx and it starts to load I get a fatal IO error because it can't find my Matrox card. How do I reconfigure the video card from the command line? Do I need Linux specific drivers?

Do "xf86config" as root and take the time to carefully read the instructions, make sure you have your moniter and video card specs handy.
