No Floppy in Red Hat

I just installed Red Hat 7.2 and am trying to make a dual boot system with xp. I need to make a boot disk so I can copy bootsect.lnx to my c:\ but Linux isn't recognising my floppy drive. Any help would be appreciated.

put the floppy in the drive and type in

mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

ensure a folder by name floppy exists in /mnt, as such RH7.2 has it created

i have tried to fo that but it still doesnt work. I have a friend who told me to do it. Someone on another post told me that redhat 7.2 doesnt like some newer motherboards and doesnt recognise the floppy. I have been told to update my kernel but Im not sure on how to do that. I am a total newbie to linux.
