Question No ethernet using slackware 12 on Inspiron B130

Hello all,

I am some what new to installing linux on laptops. I have a friend's Inspiron B130 from two years ago that I am installing Slackware 12 Kernel 2.6.x on. Everything is working just fine except there is no internet connection.

I configured the network in the setup and install of slackware. I went into the the terminal and typed ifconfig. eth0 shows as UP and running and so is lo. DHCP is on and I have an address for the IP, Bcast, and Mask. I can also ping the router. When I go into firefox I get problem loading page for any website I try.

I looked through the forums and saw that some people used ndiswrapper. Is that what I need to do?

Also in the control panel eth0 shows up as enabled.

Thank you.

Ara

Sounds like you can't resolve DNS

What does your "/etc/resolv.conf" file have in it?

Can you resolve a domain name? (www.google.com). At the command line try "nslookup www.google.com"

For some reason I can't connect on eth0. When I installed slackware12 I could not get web pages up either.
However, eth1 worked for me.

Try
ifconfig eth1 up
dhcpcd eth1
