No errors reported in Xorg.0.log but keyboard not working with "AutoAddDevices" "true"

i am working Puppy linux 6.3.2
Mine is a desktop PC and i have kept "AutoAddDevices" as "True" in xorg.conf.
after loading the xwindows my mouse and touchscreen works perfectly by keyboard become unresponsive. I couldn't see any errors in Xorg.0.log and Keyboard is getting detected as well as loaded.

if make "AutoAddDevices" as "False", my mouse and keyboard works fine but the touch screen doesn't work properly (needs calibration)

if anyone can help, i need to do this as soon as possible.

Here is my xorg.conf

Have you tried running X with no xorg.conf at all? If that doesn't work for you, as it does for the vast majority of PCs using current distros, try changing keyboard driver to libinput.

kulkarm 11-25-2019 10:08 PM

Ok i'll try your suggestions. but in this case should i remove all other .conf files in /usr/share/X11/Xorg.conf.d also?

kulkarm 11-26-2019 04:24 AM

So i tried below combination.

1. remove xorg.conf and all conf files in usr/share/X11/Xorg.conf.d
Outcome:
the system asked to run xorgwizard. i did a cancel and moved on without running xorgwizard. the mouse light and keyboard is on but not responding. also no Xorg.0.log was not created.

2. Kept xorg.conf and changed drivers to libinput in xorg.conf and 10-evdev.conf:
Keyboard, mouse and touchscreen all were unresponsive. I checked if numlock light was working on keyboard but it was negative.

strange thing is only keyborad doesn't work with evdev drivers.

mrmazda 11-26-2019 07:02 AM

When I wrote, I assumed you meant files in /etc/X11/, not those in /usr/share/X11/. Files in /usr/share/* are not meant to be touched except by a package manager. Whatever was in /usr/share/X11/ needs to be restored. Files in /etc/X11/ are meant to override automagic defaults.

kulkarm 11-26-2019 10:31 PM

first of all thank you for replying and helping

you are right primarily i did changes in /etc/X11 in addition to that i did changes /usr/share/X11/xog.conf.d as it was another resource affecting the functionality.

mrmazda 11-26-2019 11:44 PM

The only Puppy I have is 8.0, which is Ubuntu-based rather than 6.3.2's Slackware base, so it's likely I won't be able to help much further unless possibly you can restore /usr/share/X11/ to its default state.

kulkarm 11-27-2019 10:58 PM

ok but do let me know if anything you can suggest. I need the keyboard, mouse and touchscreen to work simultaneously.

kulkarm 12-03-2019 05:44 AM

i have restored the /usr/share/X11 to normal state and all OS parameters are as before.

just searching more on hot plugging and autoAddDevices. So i came to know that if Hot plugging is on InputDevice section is overridden by InputClass. that's the reason why i suppose keyboard is getting disabled as it is configured with kbd driver in xorg.conf.

I have 10-evdev.conf in /usr/share/X11/Xorg.conf.d which reads as following.

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "evdev pointer catchall"
MatchIsPointer "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "evdev"
EndSection

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
MatchIsKeyboard "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"

Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection

Section "InputClass"

Driver "evdev"
EndSection

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "evdev tablet catchall"

Driver "evdev"
EndSection

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "evdev touchscreen catchall"
MatchIsTouchscreen "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "evdev"
EndSection

please see if i am missing out on anything.

mrmazda 12-03-2019 12:05 PM

The following is /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf on both Debian 10 Buster and Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic:
Code:

#
# Catch-all evdev loader for udev-based systems
# We don't simply match on any device since that also adds accelerometers
# and other devices that we don't really want to use. The list below
# matches everything but joysticks.

I suggest to try it alone. Then if you need to make any changes, put those in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf as overrides or supplements.

i checked the scenario as per your suggestions but result has been same. however i installed the evtest utility and put that in .bashrc (as i was not able to type anything) just to check if system is registering and key press events. In evtest i could see all the key press events which were pressed during the test. I found it strange and i means the drivers are loaded properly but xorg is ignoring the key press events.

can you tell me how this scenario can happen and how to trouble shoot this. Looking forward for your inputs

Have you tried unplugging then replugging mouse and keyboard after boot completes?

There could be something else in your startup files that is hijacking all input.
Not just in .bashrc, you'd have to check everywhere.
I know very little about puppy linux, so I cannot be more precise.
