As I said in the other thread about the modem that you posted, maybe you should read the modem howto.
In there is a technique used to see if the modem is software or hardware modem. Run "hardrake2" in a terminal as root and when it opens go to options->auto detect modem.
Quit and open it again. From this stage it should detect your modem.

"command not found" It's "harddrake2" I must be getting close to a fix, kppp locks up now when I try to connect.

So did harddrake2 work? If it didn't then urpmi harddrake. So, did you try using Mandrake's wizard to set up your connection? You can access it through the control centre.

Yes, I got in there, but I wasn't ever able to get kppp to see the modem. Then I discovered that the sound card wouldn't work and bagged the whole thing. I'm getting "Damn Small Linux" to put in my spare machine, sounds like just the ticket. Thanks for your help.
