your trying to get at the terminal to issue commands right? I think it's CTRL-ALT-F2 that should load it up... not 100% though. But if that's it you should at least be able to get in and do what you need to do. Like I said though not 100%, Thats how I do it on my desktop. Your logging through a remote server and may not have the privilege, or I could just be wrong. Best info I got: Search Google for Linux Remote Sever No Terminal (or No Prompt) and see what pops up.
