No audio on music CDs

I have had Red Hat Linux 9 for a long time now, and I still haven't solved the problem of no audio on music cds. I have been reading your forums for about six months, and none of the offered solutions to this problem have been relevant to my case, or so it seems.
All volume levels are up, all mutes off, I figured out how to un-busy /dev/dsp, (fuser command), dmesg detects my soundcard and lists it by name and number, sndconfig plays the test sound just fine, and the sound effects of the games work fine. CDP works just fine, but no audio. KsCD won1 work unless I fill out the cddb, but when I do that it says it cannot write to the file, even though I opened up all permissions to it.
Any other ideas?

If you're using cdp, you'll have to connect an audio lead from your CDROM to your sound card. Either that or use the CDDA plugin for XMMS or use Xine.
