No acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

It says it's looking for gcc, and can't find it.
So it spits out "error: No acceptable C compiler found in $PATH"

I've just now installed the latest Lenny Debian.
I'm pretty sure I've got all the packages from the other 30 CDs too. When I installed Debian, it asked me if I had any other CDs to scan, so I scanned all 31.

I'm not sure if or how I was supposed to install the extra packages after that, so it might be related to why my system can't find gcc.

Can anyone help?

Is the gcc package installed? If you're not sure then try this at a terminal
whereis gcc
If you don't see "/usr/bin/gcc" then it isn't and you'll have to install it. Do you have an internet connection?
