NIS or NIS+

Hi all,
Can someone post a good NIS, NIS+, LDAP tutorial for dummies? Also, what is the prefer method, NIS, NIS+, or LDAP? Thanks.

Google can point you to many good how-to's and tutorials, all tailored for your particular Linux flavor. That would be the best place to start, since you don't say anything about your version/distro of Linux, or what you're really trying to accomplish.

As far as what's preferred, that depends on your environment, what your needs are, and what you want to do. Some organizations prefer LDAP...some don't. That's a question only you can answer.

The main problem with NIS is it's plaintext ie nil security. OpenLDAP can use TLS (encryption; think SSLv3)

NIS:

OpenLDAP:
