NIC not working at full speed
 

I have just installed ubuntu linux kernel 2.6 and I have noticed the that the lights on the router indicate that the NIC in the computer is not working at the full 100 megabits per second but at 10 or less. I am inquiring about installing a driver or changing some settings to increase the speed. The NIC is SMC 1211TX.

run "ethtool" to get more information about the status of your connection. also consider the switchport you are connected to, does it handle 10/100Mbps...? see the link below, it may provide additional information.
