nforce2 drivers

Well it's official I'm a :newbie:

I've posted here before for help with Knoppix on my hard driveless machine and now that I have a new computer I need some more help.

I have an emachines T3025 with an nforce2 mobo and I'm currently running Fedora Core 1 (got it with a the Official Fedora Companion). I have downloaded both the tar and rpm files for the nforce 2 and I need to know how to install one or the other. I tried using the nvidia instructions but I couldn't make heads or tails out of it. I read that i could recompile the kernel to 2.6.5 to get the support built in but I'm not quite ready to do that yet since I just installed today. I guess this is something I'll need to know anyway for future intallation reference.

once again thanks for your help.

which drivers are you referring to exactly?

I'll assume your talking about integrated network support with the forcedeth driver, but it doesnt really matter, for the .tar open a console and type tar -zxvf foo.tar.gz then cd foo look in the directory for a file called either INSTALL or README this will give you instructions on what to do next, I suggest reading them, if you cannot understand what they are telling you then it will more or less boil down to typing, ./configure && make && make dep && make install, those are what a tarred application will generally need again read the README or INSTAll file since those will tell you exactly which of those commands or their variants are required
