newbie windows98-linux72 grub crash, desperately need to get back windows

Hi

last year i installed redhat linux72 on my m/c alongwith windows 98, to learn something new. since than i rarely got time to explore linux.

Now suddenly yesterday i found that my system is not logging, and stucks on screen showing the message "grub" ( i know its a boot loader but nothing more than that). i thought that my windows have crashed and decided to format c: drive and recover windows98. It didn't work (on reboot m/c stucked on grub)

I have 2 partitions for windows 98, 1 for windows and other for data (which i dont want to loose)

then today, based on some comments in a forum, i used linux CDs to "linux rescue", but it was unable to find partition table. then I paniked..and run fdisk from and deleted a non-dos partition, thinking that windows will overwrite the mbr (still status quo)

<b>I urgently need to be able to start windows <b>because i need it for some work (assigments). <b>I dont want to loose my data in d drive<b>. Even though i plan to reinstall/learn linux later, For now, i dont care about it.

PL HELP... ITS VERY URGENT

If you've formatted your entire drive, Windows is gone.
Simple as that really.

Pongmaster, Thanks for replying

sorry for being ambiguous (if i have),

i said that i decided to format c: drive and recover windows98. that means i formatted the c: drive and used windows cd (the recovery cd that came with the m/c) to re-install the windows in the c drive. But even after that i was not able to start windows because screen would get stuck at "grub".

pl note that my d drive is still intact (which i'd be able to access it when i am able to start windows) and i dont want to loose that data.

PL HELP ME ...

Run fdisk /mbr, the DOS one. Grub is in the mbr.

cheers

Fdisk /mbr writes a sparkly new master boot record effectively
nukin' the Grub code that was giving you a headache.

cheers
