Newbie wants to install aplications

Hi,

I have firefox.tar and limewire.rpm on my desktop, but don't know how to install them.

Should they be in a specific directory to work?

I cant get the hang of Kpackage and Ark which are the two different programs trying to unpack them either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

David

Well, this is a SuSE issue I guess, in Fedora you can click on an RPM to (attempt to) install it graphically. For now I'd suggest using the command line, the following command should install limewire:

rpm -Uvh limewire.rpm

The .tar file is like a zip in Windows, you have to open it up using ark or whatever and take a look inside.

If you are using SuSe pro 9.2 u can install .rpm files using YaSt. It is very user friendly.

For firefox.tar you can follow what mhearn said or you can use YaSt to do an online update so that you have the latest packages on the SuSe site
