Newbie to Debian need help
Hi to all,
Im a newbie to this OS and have decided i wanted to have a go at it because it looked/sounded pretty good and stable.
anyway i got hold of what i thought would be fairly straight forward OS
if anyone is familiar with it , i got hold of the APC magazine June 2004
which has Debian 3.0r2 as a bootable DVD.
so i try and install it on an old P3 256Mb Ram
i try and follow the prompts as much as possible the only part i got stuck in was "task"
anyway all seemed to install ok
however where there is a nice picture of x windows in the mag
i get "i cannot start the X server ....likely not setup properly...do u want to view output"
so i say yes and i get this
"unable to open wrapper config file /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config
then down the bottom of the logfile i get
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable config.
Fatal screen error:
no screen found.
then i can go
"to would you like to try and run the X config program"
so i say yes
and i login with password and i get to a screen where i have no idea what to do.
i just wanna be able to get x windows up and going so i can learn more about this OS.
any help please
also is there a step by step guide for installing Debian 3.0r2 for newbies?
thanks
