Newbie seeks Help in installing adsl modem in ubuntu

Hi Friends

im using Ubuntu and im a newbie, i wanna use of my broadband internet in linux environment. i have a usb connection with my broadband modem

how to do that being a newbie i dont know how to do it. somebody says that usb modems will not work with ubuntu even ubuntu help also says that. how check with if my modem works with ubuntu.

Before your next post, read through your question what you are asking.
You have not provided enough information for anyone to help you.
At the very least:

make/model of USB modem
Version of Ubuntu
Name and country of your ISP

Modem Specifications:
Manufacturer:TNDSL
Chipset name: Broadcom ( which i checked up with lsusb command)
Model: TNDSL 2120
ISP : BSNL, India
Version of ubuntu: I dont know how to check up ( im a n newbie to linux)
Kernel version : 2.6 (from the bott menu itself i found this)
