I know I am missing something *very* basic here, but I have checked both the stuff here and also the Linux books i have so here it goes....
Atempting to use the rdate command to set date and time on my RH 7.3 Linux boxes with an external time source. So I type
rdate -s ntp.nasa.gov (or about 20 other NTP sites I have tried with both domain names and straight IP) and *always* get
rdate:couldn't connect to host ntp.nasa.gov: No route to host
I can both ping and trace route to all of the sites I have tried without an issue. Alos basic web browsing works without an issue . Ok, I think to my self, maybe it is the Firewall we have here at work blocking port 123 - which I believe is open as all of the Novell boxes we have can sync to external sources ok, but you never know. Even the two name servers we have outside the Firewall and no NAT for same issue. Go to home box with RH 7.3, no firewall, and direct connection out to internet thru dial up connection and try same command. *Same Thing!!!!* AGGGHHH! Ok, what very basic rdate/networking config am I missing here?
Thanks!
