See no GUI, hear no GUI
I just installed Mandrake 9.1 and I am new to Linux. During installation I selected the option of booting in a graphical interface but I just get the command prompt. I reinstalled but still no luck, just the prompt. I saw another thread which was answer with the command "init 5" that did not help. Can and assist me?

startx
xf86config startx at prompt should start x and gnome/kde or a login manager. use xf86config or xf86setup, if u need to configure x |
thank you
I am configuring now.

after config x
after running the xf86Config, I attempt to run startx but receive the following:
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 13) giving up xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno3): Server error |

http://www.google.com/search?q=execv...=opera&num=100 In the end (and i'll prolly get flamed for saying so), it may be easier to just reinstall. You have to ask yourself, how long will it take for me to fix it by hand, and how long will a reinstallation take. :/ |
Trace the path listed and verify the permissions on the folders/files it points to.... hell verify their existence as well..
:p |
Thank you all
I tried to re-install, thank you for the link to the Red Hat forum. My video card was not detected and Mandrake just ignored. I can see the GUI. Thanks a bunch.
