Newbie Q:How do i get an ICS set up under Linux Mandrake 9.0??


Hi,

I'm quite new to Linux and so still a bloody newbie

After getting my Internet connetction to work in no time i tryed to get my ICS to work again....

But i can find no way of getting it to work

can anyone please explain me how i do get a functioning ICS set up with my Linux PC as ICS server and 2 Windows (1 98se and 1 2000) as clients??

you need to setup iptables masquerade.
and enable ip forwarding

you also need to configure the dns and ip addresses on the clients, the best way to do it is by setting up a dhcp server

I have ipchains running and did like this:
ipchains -A forward -i ppp0 -j MASQ
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

ahhhhh, and I had to type "route del default" before starting the internetconnection on the server

yea that will work.
If the linux box has a connection and can browse the internet then you just need to setup the clients ip addresses, default route and dns.


can they ping the router?
