Newbie needs help... yum vs. apt-get

I am new to Linux (used to XP - Don't hurt me) and I was using Fedora Core 2. A friend gave me a copy of Ubunta and I figured I'd give it a try.

What is the difference b/t Yum (FC2) and apt-get?

they are both package managers fort their respective distros.
Yum for fedora (redhat),
and apt-get for Debian-based.

I can't tell you much about the difference between the two progs except that the package management in redhat
turned me to Debian years ago .
