newbie needs help with knoppix

Hello everyone. I have two computers that are both in perfect working order and one of them will boot knoppix normally but the other shows one line on the screen, "isolinux 2.04 Debian 2003-06-06 isolinux: Disk error" and then hangs. The disk is fine though because it works on my other machine. Does anyone know why a cd would boot on one machine and not on the other? Both the cd and the drive work properly so I'm at a loss. Is the BIOS to old? Thanks.

Well, have you cosiderd cleaning the cd-rom drive laser? Maybe try booting another bootable CD and see what happens.

Its a possibility that the bios is old, but given that it has booted off the cd (to show the isolinux bit) i dont think thats a factor.

I would reburn the disk, not all cd-drives are the same, and it may just be an iffy disk that will read in one and not the other.

You may want to try to get hold of DVD-Knoppix or try another bootable distro like DSL or Gnoppix

Failing that, post your system specs and we'll have another go at it

Thanks cyber-worx. I burned knoppix onto a staples brand CD-RW and they seem to be bad quality CD's in general. Maybe you're right and the disk just plain sucks too much!!
