Tell us what distribution and version of linux you are running.

When you run the network configuration tool select DHCP and enter the router's IP address for the gateway.

Hi

I don't know the Slackware tools at all, try reading
man ifconfig

use ifconfig to configure your device

iIFCONFIG(8) Linux Programmer's Manual IFCONFIG(8)

NAME
ifconfig - configure a network interface

SYNOPSIS
ifconfig [interface]
ifconfig interface [aftype] options | address ...

You will then need to add a route to your gateway to the WWW, look at man route.

Good luck

Some stupid questions:
1) Can you ping 192.168.1.1?
2) Have you've confirmed that your router is set up as a DHCP server?
3) Have you restarted or else run the inet scripts in /etc/rc.d (rc.inet1 and rc.inet2)?

try to not put dhcp..

run network configuration and put this there:
Ip add= 192.168.1.3
netmask= 255.255.255.0
gateway add= 192.168.1.1
dns= just type anything

accept the settings and exit
then type in the command line:

adsl-setup

and configure everything with the information you already know, such as eth0, your login, your password...

at a time you'll be asked to type your DNS server address..
type "server"

and see the instructions after that..
