Unhappy Newbie Installing NTFS Driver on FC5


[root@pcsandmore ~]# yum install ntfs-3g
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
core [1/6]
Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: core
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: core



i get this error after follwing instructions on installing NTFS driver for FC5

i need to have FC5 Computer read shared folders over the network by winxp

many thanx

Not surprising, since FC5 is ancient. The latest is FC11. First, I'd suggest upgrading...you're missing out on alot of security updates and patches, along with the latest software, ntfs-3g among them.

Second, if you need to mount a shared Windows drive under Linux, use smbclient, and just mount it. Shouldn't need ntfs-3g.

The old URL's as contained in the FC5 repo files is not valid anymore. The FC5 repository data still exists on the net, but you will have to change the yum repo files to pint to the correct valid URL's. RedHat still offers the old packages for all Fedora versions on their sites somewhere.
