Newbie help with VPN

Hi, i've installed all the PPP and PPTP packages that most HOWTOs have recommended to install. have then run pptpconfig to try and add the server i'm trying to connect to but i get the following popup error......

Failed to open /etc/pptp-php-gtk/lock

information enteredcan not be saved.....

in the console from which i ran pptpconfig, the following error is output:

Warning: fopen(/etc/pptp-php-gtk/lock): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /usr/bin/pptp-php-gtk.php on line 234

i'm sure ive installed the gtk packages and created the directories.....

can anyone help?

Are you root? Does the /etc/pptp-php-gtk directory exist?

I've run the command as root , yes. The directory exists but there dont seem to be any files in it, not even hidden files :S
