Newbie Fedora kernel upgrade help

I have replaced Windoze on my desktop with Fedora Core2, should have done it long ago. I have just completed installing all the available updates via the up2date tool. Everything is going great except I now receive a Critical Information warning that says I am running kernel 2.6.5-1.358, but the newest installed kernel is 2.6.8-1.521. It is recommended that you reboot
to test this new kernel. The only kernel that is visible to select on reboot is the current one. How / what do I do from here ...... help please

Did it show you the happy balloon message, saying it was successfully installed?
Try it form a command line, as root:

yum upgrade
