newbie distribution (distro) chooser quiz and search systems

Hi

1)
Here are some quiz style web pages that may assist in selecting distros.

Be aware that they will reflect on their database, which may be limited?

http://polishlinux.org/choose/quiz/

http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/index.php

http://desktoplinuxathome.com/distro.html

2) www.distrowatch.com has info on popular page hits, links to reviews etc and has a search engine web page.

http://distrowatch.com/search.php

3) Live cds which are especially useful to act as demonstration distros may give different results if you are looking for a good 'rescue' cd.

web pages other than distrowatch to consider include:

http://www.distromania.com/index.php?distro=active

(in above link, look for live cd)

http://www.livecdlist.com/

4) Other links to consider incude:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LiveDistro

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_distribution

5) Some newbies just want to be told what to do, because that is what has been the history in ms land.....so if you fall to the class of newbie,

use a live cd first to test your hardware will work....and then install the only distro to use....mandriva....heh heh

6) I noticed there was no sticky in newbie forum, so could other LQ members please reply with good links.

I am hoping you will not engage in immature thinking that I just engaged in....and recommend one distro like mdv.

But the above does not always answer issues like hardware configuring, package management, kde versus gnome versus (insert your window manager)
etc

cheerio

oops Tinkster has a link to similar in his sticky. But me thinks this might catch newbies attention?
